Yacht festival success for Thailand

The success of the first ever multi-hull yacht racing festival held in South Pattaya, Thailand, has got its organiser thinking about next year’s event already.

The Pattaya International Multi-hull Festival welcomed competitors from 16 countries, including Australia, the Netherlands and Aruba, who joined a sizeable local Thai contingent for a week of racing. The event, which took place at the Royal Varuna Yacht Club in South Pattaya, involved 60 vessels battling it out along the crystal clear waters of Thailand’s coastline.

Luxury holidays to the region have often conjured images of idyllic beaches and tropical retreats but now the addition of the yacht festival has brought an exciting international event to the area.

Festival organiser and Pattaya-based catamaran builder, John Higham, said the overwhelmingly positive response to the inaugural festival means it will become an annual event. He said it’s his aim to grow the festival into Asia’s largest multi-hull regatta by next year.

Tourists taking Thailand holidays to Pattaya can enjoy the range of marine sport activities available against the backdrop of some of the world’s most beautiful scenery.
